New Year, New Me, right? No. Wrong. So incredibly wrong and not to mention boring, that it hurts. What’s wrong with the old me? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself this? If you have, let’s grab coffee and get you learnt. You’re not an algebra equation. (And thank the Lawd for that.) You’re a human being with a emotions and complexities I’m sure even you don’t understand. If you haven’t asked yourself, I salute you. I’ve come to realize that we as humans like to pinpoint everything we want to correct about ourselves, everything that is “wrong.” Especially at the start of the new year, we aim to shed a few pounds, to nip our laziness in the bud, to read more, etc. We aim to become this better version of ourselves, which is all well and good. However, I have noticed that very few of us realize that “better” should imply an improvement to what is already good. I like to think that accepting this is the only way to move forward with confidence. And the beauty of it? Everyone is capable of it. Everyone is capable of self-encouragement, self-love. No one is stopping you from looking at yourself in the mirror and smiling. Or laughing at your own joke. Or being kind to yourself. And with that, you’ll find it easy to smile at others. To be kind to them. To laugh at their jokes, (unless of course they’re insulting. In which case, wreak havoc on their village, cause a scene, throw your latte at them, whatever you need to do).
